Kate SeRine Reveals the Mystery of Gideon Montrose (Transplanted Tales)

Mystery Solved

When I began writing EVER AFTER, the fourth full-length novel in my Transplanted Tales series, Gideon Montrose was a mystery even to me. He’d had very little page time in the previous novels, but when he was there—wow, I’d enjoyed hanging with him! So when I began writing his story, I figured I’d better do a little digging and really get to know my new leading man. Here are a few of the things I discovered about Gideon—only some of which actually made it into the novel.

1) Gideon was illiterate until he became the Seelie king’s bodyguard and was required to learn to read. He now reads/speaks nine languages fluently.

2) Gideon especially enjoys poetry. His favorite poets are Robert Burns and John Keats.

3) He loves all music, but he’s particularly fond of traditional Celtic folk songs.

4) Gideon’s parents were both killed during the Seelie/Unseelie war in Make Believe. When the war ended and his people were wiped out, he became a mercenary.

5) Gideon towers over most everyone he meets, standing at an intimidating 6’6”.

6) He’s a formidable swordsman, but a terrible shot with a bow.

7) Gideon has never been unseated in a joust. I had really hoped to work a joust into the novel, but, alas, it never made it to the page.

8) Gideon inherited his empathic abilities from his mother.

9) His accent from Make Believe had all but disappeared until Arabella Locksley suddenly returned. The strength of his emotions when she’s around cause him to slip back into his native accent.

10) Gideon was initially drawn to Arabella because they both lacked a family and place in society, and because, unlike him, she had retained her playfulness and indomitable spirit in the face of adversity. He considers her a much stronger person than he’ll ever be.

To Catch a Thief. . .

For centuries, Gideon Montrose has served the King of Fairies without question and, often, without mercy. So when the King orders him to apprehend a notorious thief, Gideon obeys. But when he finally gets his hands on the beautiful culprit, Gideon's in for a shock.

Arabella Locksley is none other than the spirited, unpredictable woman he knew back in Make Believe as Robin Hood--the love of his life whose tragic death destroyed his chance at Happily Ever After.

Now, he has an impossible choice. Betray the woman he once loved, or the king he's bound to serve?
