Interview: Krystal Shannan (My Viking Vampire Book Tour) + giveaway

We got a great guest today. Krystal is here talking about VIKING VAMPIRES! Katie just about had a litter of kittens when she heard. The term Vampnado did come up. Just saying...

Katie: When you combined vampires and Vikings, did you realize that the putting two of the sexiest things together would cause orgasm explosions? It's a real thing by the way.
Ovaries exploding photo Tumblr-ovaries.gif
Krystal: Orgasm explosions were my main goal while writing MVV. I’m a huge historical fan and I can’t tell you how obsessed I am with that new History Channel show VIKINGS. ((drool)) So for me, having a hero that was a Viking and a vampire…it was a dream come true. Possibly a very lustful dream. ((grin))
Sharon: *hands Krystal a towel for drool* We understand.

Sharon: For those who haven’t read your latest release, My Viking Vampire, would you tell us a bit about it? I’ll try to keep Katie from exploding <G>.
Krystal: So, book starts with the heroine having a shi—I mean a craptastic day. Apocalyptic even. Her ex found out where she’s been working and is about to be pounding on her front door. As she’s running from him she picks up another stalker…did I mention her apartment got flooded from a sewer leak? Yeah, anyway…she meets Erick, the sexy god of a vampire and tries to tell him to get lost too. But he offers her something she just can’t refuse. ((wink))

Sharon: A hotdog covered in delicious, um…cheese?
Krystal: No, something a little better than that. ((Laughing)) A place where she might be safe. She’d do almost anything for that.

Katie: Well, you did say "pounding on her front door"

Katie: I've had very "vivid" dreams about vampires, what's the most vivid dream you can share with us?
Sharon: Uh…Katie? You did tell her we were PG-13?
Katie: *winks at Krystal* Sure I did!
Krystal: Have you seen a PG-13 lately?! They can put almost everything but the F-word in there. ((shaking head)) So a vivid dream, hmmmmm? My husband could tell you all about them. Apparently I talk in my sleep. Like…narrate scenes!!! ((giggling)) I never remember them, but needless to say, I had to stop reading about certain things right before I went to bed. It was keeping him up. ((wink))

Katie: *nudge nudge* Sharon, she said "up". hehehe
Sharon: *whispers* she talks about sex a lot…
Krystal: ((grin)) Can’t help it, my mind is a fun-house filled with smexy things!

Sharon: You studied Greek and Roman mythology. They have a lot of the same gods/goddesses just with different names. What are a few differences between Greek and Roman mythologies people might not know?
Krystal: One of the biggest differences I’ve come across was that the Greeks were fixated on beauty. Their gods were always described with bodies and features that would make them physical perfection in the eyes of most all people, whereas the roman gods, even though most likely stolen and copied from Greek culture, were never really described the same way by their worshipers. The Roman gods were more ethereal, rarely taking human form.

Katie: The made for tv movie Sharknado is such a huge hit, do you think vampnado would also be a hit?
Sharon: *high fives Katie for coming up with vampnado*
Krystal: Totally! I would so watch that. I DVR’d both sharknados and watched them just so I wouldn’t be out of the loop. Though I have to say the first one was funnier.
Katie: We should talk about our dream team of cast for the show. But we'll save everyone and chat after.

went old school this time
Sharon: *blurting out* Thor! Oh, sorry about that, habit.
Krystal: You want to see Thor get eaten by a shark! ((GASP)) or as a vampire on Vampnado? Please say the latter.

Sharon: You also have a series about wolf shifters. So we got
to go there…Vampires or werewolves? Is there another supernatural being you want to tackle (heehee) next?
Krystal: I LUFFFFF my wolves, but I really fell in love with vampires again after writing My Viking Vampire. I am actually tackling dragon shifters next. You meet them in MVV, Miles and Eli. ((squeal)) I’m so excited to start their story, but first I have to finish the first book in a new werewolf series. It’s apparently the fall of firsts for me. Two new series.

Katie: With shows like True Blood ending, do you think vamps have seen their day, or night if you like? What do you think could be the next big paranormal thing?
Krystal: Nope. We had Buffy and Angel before True Blood, granted they were quite tame comparatively, but still. I think they warmed up my generation for True Blood to really succeed. I think there are lots of people just waiting for someone to come up with something new. Just look how big of a cult following Vampire Diaries and the Originals have on the CW. Someone somewhere is going to pick another series and we will have another great show. I’m crossing my fingers for Kenyon’s or Ward’s series.

Sharon*high fives Krystal and Katie*

Katie: Outlander on Starz is already turning out to be a huge hit, what do you think about sexy men with swords and in kilts? Actually, that's a silly question. Next!

Krystal: NOOOOOO!!!! No next! I am in lust with Jamie. Could they have picked a sexier man with a sweeter face? I want to just … squeeze his cheeks. ((glancing around nervously)) There, I kept it PG-13. I didn’t say which cheeks

Katie: Sharon, can we keep Krystal? PLEASE! She gets me, she's just as lusty!
Sharon: *sigh* remember last time you tried to keep an author? Get written permission this time…
Krystal: I’ll totally come back anytime you’ll have me! This has been so much fun!!!

Sharon: Well, how am I supposed to follow that question…? Everyone is now imagining kilts and big swords. Let’s get back to Vikings! Why did you pick a Viking vampire?
Krystal: I picked it for the history. I wanted the back story so I could explore that as the series progresses and also just because VIKINGS are HAWT! Did you not hear me say I was obsessed?

Sharon: *talking to herself* Thor is a viking god...just saying...

Katie: Chips or Popcorn?
Krystal: Popcorn!

Sharon: Schwarzenegger or Stallone

KrystalSchwarzenegger! Hands down!
Sharon: have a favorite Schwarzenegger movie quote?
Krystal: “I’ll be back.” & “It’s not a tumor.” My husband and I use those constantly with each other AND we say them in Arnold’s voice.

Katie: Lemon or Lime?

KrystalLime

Sharon: Coke or Pepsi?
KrystalGinger Ale
Katie: UHHH. Well see we have a war going. If you HAD to pick one, which would you go with?
Krystal: Fine! I’d pick Coke. I can’t stand Pepsi.

Sharon: *sucks in a shuddering breath and runs from the room sobbing*

Katie: Cotton mouth or Itchy eyes?

KrystalBoth when I’m around cats.

Sharon: Wiley Coyote or Roadrunner?

KrystalWiley Coyote

Katie: Two Piece or One?

KrystalTwo!

Sharon: Spike or Angel?

KrystalAhhhhhhh! Why do I have to choose!!!! Angel.

Katie: Wrestle a Gator or Ride a bull?

KrystalWatch a sexy Australian man wrestle a gator for me while I hold his hat.
Sharon: Okay, that was an awesome answer. Here have a moonpie.
Krystal: YUM! ((says thank you between bites))

Sharon: DC or Marvel?
KrystalUmmmm, whichever one is responsible for Iron Man. I’m on that boat. ((giggle))
Katie: That's Marvel Comics and good pick!

Katie: Poke'em in the eye or Jab'em in the throat?

KrystalThere’s a third option not listed here that I would choose located a little further south.

Sharon: Skip to My Lou or London Bridge
KrystalLondon Bridge! I always liked catching people.
Sharon: *whispers to Katie* I think she is talking about sex…again!
Thanks for stopping by! Is there anything else you want to tell the flock? Then we will head down to the dungeon and you can sign some waivers for Katie.
Krystal: Thank you so much for spending time with me today! To all the fans out there — To Save a horse, Ride a Cowboy and To Save an Author, Write a Review!

NOW! Let’s go see this dungeon of yours, Katie!

XOXO

My Viking Vampire
Sanctuary, Texas
by Krystal Shannan
Bailey Ross’ world is crumbling around her. Her abusive ex, a human, is closing in on her again, and to make matters worse, a new enemy, a djinn, is stalking her. This supernatural being takes great pleasure in human pain, something Bailey has in excess thanks to her ex. If she’s caught by either, she’s as good as dead.

Backed into a corner and desperate to escape, she does something she swore wouldn’t ever be possible again –trusting a man. And he’s a vampire.

Protection via the sexy vampire Erick Thorson may prove to be a little more than she bargained for. Sparks fly between them and she finds herself agreeing to more than just protection. Though he has promised not to let anyone harm her, the small west Texas town is more than it seems and he may not be able to make good on his vow no matter how hard he tries.

Will Sanctuary be the home Bailey longs for or will she have to die to find out?

Out Now!

Krystal Shannan goes to sleep every night dreaming of mythical realms with werewolves, vampires, fae, and dragons. Occasional a fabulous, completely human story slips into the mix, but powers and abilities usually crop up without fail, twisting reality into whatever her mind can conceive.

As a child, her parents encouraged her interests in Ancient Greek and Roman mythology and all things historical and magickal. As an adult the interests only grew. She is a child of Neverland and refuses to ever stop believing in fairies.

She is guilty of indulging and being a Buffy the Vampire Slayer groupie as well as an Angel fan. For those of you unfamiliar with the world of Joss Whedon, you are missing out! She also makes sure to watch as many action and adventure movies as possible. The more exciting the better. Yippee-Ki-Yay..... If you don't know the end of that phrase, then you probably don't like the same movies.

She writes stories full of action, snark, magick, and heart-felt emotion. If you are looking for leisurely paced sweet romance, her books are probably not for you. But, for those looking for a magical ride, filled with adventure, passion, and just a hint of humor. Welcome home.

  2. Definitely vampire. I have always had a thing for vampires even as a child.

  3. I truly love both shifters and vampires and don't think I can pick a favorite between them. If I had to choose, it would depend upon what book I was reading at the time and whether the character was shifter or vampire.

  6. Fabulous interview, enjoyed every word right up until SOMEBODY chose the wrong vamp hero. Spike! You were supposed to choose SPIKE!!!! As for vamps and weres, I love both .... of course I have a bias in favor of wolves since I write about them, but I'm also a rabid BDB fan.
