Book Review: Crazy Ex-Ghoulfriend by Angela Roquet

Janie Parker is in love with the boy next door, but he's dating Miss Popular. That is, until she wraps her car around a tree and bites the dust. Just when things settle down and Janie thinks that she might have a shot at going to prom with the boy next door, Miss Popular comes back from the grave, and she's one crazy ex-ghoulfriend.

Janie, a teenager who has been in love with her next door neighbor since they were young kids, thinks she may finally have a chance with the boy of her dreams when his girlfriend is killed in a car accident.

Wayne, the boy that all the girls seem to want (Okay, maybe just the two main girls in the story) is hurt in a car accident that kills his girlfriend. His college scholarship is taken away and his parents ground him for what he fears may be a very long time because he went to a party that served alcohol.

Matilda is the mean girl that gets killed in a car accident. I started off right away disliking her character and no amount of what she went through or how she seemed to change as the book went on changed my dislike of her.

This book was slow to start but about half way through, the pace really picks up and the story gets going in such a way that I wanted to keep reading to see what was going to happen next.

I felt like I was back in high school watching all those popular kids and their drama which was interesting since I didn't have that sort of drama while I was in high school.

I don't read many YA (Young Adult) novels because frankly, I didn't think I'd be able to relate to the characters, but with this book at least, I was wrong. Because this book has a paranormal aspect to it, ie...the girlfriend dying and coming back to life. I think I liked it just a bit more than I would have without that paranormal edge to it since I mainly read paranormal genre books. I very much enjoyed this book and am looking forward to reading more from this author.

If you enjoy YA with an edge of paranormal, teenage drama, and a little voodoo thrown in for good measure, then you'll enjoy this book.

I give this book 4 sheep

  6. Thanks for the review...not quite something I would normally look at because I tend to shy away from zombies and ghouls in my paranormal books so I appreciate the feedback.

  7. I like the paranormal stuff, but I may hold off on this one because of the teen drama. Thanks for the great review!
