Sex Criminals #1
By: Matt Fraction
A SEX COMEDY FOR COMICS Suzie's a normal girl with an extraordinary ability: when she has sex, she stops time. One night she meets John... who has the same gift. And so they do what any other sex-having, time-stopping, couple would do: they rob banks. In the vein of THE 40-YEAR OLD VIRGIN and BRIDESMAIDS, Image Comics invites you to come along with MATT FRACTION (Hawkeye, SATELLITE SAM) and CHIP ZDARSKY (Prison Funnies, Monster Cops) for the series that puts the "comic" back in “comics” and the "sexy" back in “sex crimes.
Ever had sex so good it feels like the world just stops? Well, Suzy sure has. Literally.
For Suzy, the main character of this new series, navigating puberty is trying enough, but throw in the revelation of time coming to a standstill every time she has an orgasm, and she can't help but feel truly alone. And then she meets Jon.
A rather vigorous scene involving Suzy and Jon in a public bathroom kicks off the first issue. Someone is banging on the door and telling them they need to come out and give themselves up, so it seems pretty apparent they're up to no good and in a whole lot of trouble. It's just not clear what, though. And the iridescent miasma surrounding them at the point of climax is going to take some explaining, too.
This first issue is Suzy's recounting of her adolescence up to her early college years, where she meets Jon at a party and they hit it off. Suzy's personal relevations about sex and the whole temporal disruption thing give her both an escape and a barrier to those close to her. It's such a unique approach to sex and relationships in a comic book, even the sometimes rough around the edges art style seems to suit it.
But it's really not until the last page of the issue that you get to see what kind of mischief Suzy and Jon are really up to inside that public bathroom, and the whole "Sex Criminals" title comes to fruition. It promising for a very exciting second issue.
