Plot:
Just released from prison, Jase Hollister has one goal: stay out of trouble. Strawberry Valley, Oklahoma, sounds like the perfect place for him and his two brothers-by-circumstance to settle down and live a nice, simple life. But model citizen isn't exactly this rugged bachelor's default setting—especially when it comes to a certain hot-blooded Southern beauty…
Brook Lynn Dillon has always been responsible. Not that it's done her much good. The down-on-her-luck waitress is broke, single and fun-deprived. Until Jase comes along. He is dangerous, sexy and tempting as sin, and the sizzling passion between them is undeniable. But can it melt her resistance? After all, the right kind of trouble might be just what they both need.
Gena Showalter is one of my favorite authors, hands down. Her descriptive and colorful writing ability is out of this world. The characters she's created, the vast complexity of the realms weaved, there is just no match out there today. I love her, and as someone who loves and respects her I can say that this story was not for me. At all.
Jase is an overbearing wet blanket. His hot to cold mood swings made me want to ask my doctor about some bipolar medicine. Just so I could finish reading the pages. He not only sleeps with every chick in the town, he sleeps with the main characters hoe-bag sister. *buzzer sound* That's a big whammy. No thanks, pass please. Not going to happen. You sleep with my sister, you better get tested for every type of disease known to man!
I was not feeling him and his lame attempts to be macho/sexy were boring and lacking. This tale is very middle of the road for my tastes. The town of Strawberry needed some vampires and shifters lurking about. Give me more drama! Not just what people are cooking for dinner and who's buying what at the town jewelry shop. I wanted more excitement and some adventure of some kind!
Overall, I love this author. I will continue to love and admire this author. This however was not a good fit for my tastes. If you like romance that is stationary and more about a couples personal growth then go for it!
