Dina DeMille doesn’t run your typical Bed and Breakfast. Her inn defies laws of physics, her fluffy dog is secretly a monster, and the only paying guest is a former Galactic tyrant with a price on her head. But the inn needs guests to thrive, and guests have been scarce, so when an Arbitrator shows up at Dina's door and asks her to host a peace summit between three warring species, she jumps on the chance.
Unfortunately, for Dina, keeping the peace between Space Vampires, the Hope-Crushing Horde, and the devious Merchants of Baha-char is much easier said than done. On top of keeping her guests from murdering each other, she must find a chef, remodel the inn...and risk everything, even her life, to save the man she might fall in love with. But then it's all in the day's work for an Innkeeper.

I've been wanting to check this new series out because I love all things Ilona Andrews. I have't read book one, Clean Sweep, yet (will be fixing that very soon) but it isn't necessary to enjoy Sweep in Peace. And what a freaking clever title that is once I discovered what the story was about. Oh yeah, I went in completely in the dark about the story...blurb? I don't need no stinking blurb! <G>
Ilona Andrews has written urban fantasy and PNR but the Innkeeper Chronicles is science fiction fantasy. This writing team knows how to create complex characters, rich unique worlds and a thrilling story line. They took vampires and shifters and created something new along with some other fascinating beings. The only thing that would make this story better is illustrations...oh, wait! It has those too! Included in the story are some character illustrations by the same artist that did the cover (Did I mention there is a sexy vampire and shifter? :swoon:). I'm a graphic novel fan so interior artwork is the whip cream on this fantasy sundae.
And as if all that wasn't enough...they have brought back some of my favorite characters from The Edge series, which I loved because of its dark...edge!
Sweep in Peace is about what war can do to all those involved including the ends justify the means attitude, so there are some dark and heavy moments, but it is balanced with lighter subplots. It is the characters that make this book for me. I can't wait to read book one and learn more about them.

About the authors:
Ilona Andrews is the pseudonym for a husband-and-wife writing team. author2sm“Ilona is a native-born Russian and Gordon is a former communications sergeant in the U.S. Army. Contrary to popular belief, Gordon was never an intelligence officer with a license to kill, and Ilona was never the mysterious Russian spy who seduced him. They met in college, in English Composition 101, where Ilona got a better grade. (Gordon is still sore about that.)
Gordon and Ilona currently reside in Oregon with their two children, three dogs and a cat. They have co-authored two series, the bestselling urban fantasy of Kate Daniels and romantic urban fantasy of The Edge.

ReplyDeleteI've read this a few months ago, and loved it! And Sharon, go find book 1 it is amazing and will give you some necessary background to appreciate this one a little bit more.
ReplyDeleteI do hope they will start on their next serial soon. And no I don't read one chapter at a time, I read the whole thing once it is finished :) It is free on their blog/website.
I want to find out more about Sean ;) I remember when it was posting a chapter at a time. Serials drive me crazy. I have to wait for the whole thing to be available too. And I love the Lady C.... Who lives in the inn. She is a riot.
