Firewalker, Coyote...call me ;)

Firewalker, by Allyson James, is the second book in her Stormwalker series. It was released in October of last year, but I finally got the chance to sit down and read this book. While it didn't grab me from the beginning (took about 50 pages) I pushed through and found what I was looking for: a GOOD story.

Plot:
Janet Begay's Crossroads Hotel has attracted the supernatural ever since it opened. But a new, dark power is rising, this time inside Janet herself. Her boyfriend Mick, a sexy dragon shapeshifter the Navajo call a Firewalker, knows what terrifying magic is threatening to overwhelm Janet and her Stormwalker powers. He watches over her, ready to fight for her and do anything necessary to keep her safe.
Mick must face the dragon council for breaking their laws, and while he doesn't seem too worried about his upcoming trial, Janet will do anything to keep him safe. She'll need a little help from her friends, old and new: Nash and Coyote; Cassandra, a powerful witch turned hotel manager; and Colby a sort-of-trustworthy dragon. But then a mysterious corpse is found near the Crossroads Hotel-and Janet becomes the main suspect. Now Janet and Mick must uncover what really happened, and their investigation leads to the most perilous decision of their lives...

Firewalker revolves around Native American legends, dragon mythology, action, prankster gods, and some hot romance. Janet is learning to control an extremely dangerous power inherited from her sociopath of a Mother. If Janet's power is unleashed, it could potentially destroy the world. Thanks Mom. Faced with learning how to deal with what's happening inside, her boyfriend Mick is also about to go on trial for NOT killing her. He's faced with a nasty decision: take out the girl or take out the world? I get it but it still sucks. Throughout the story you never know if maybe he might turn on her, and that mistrust does lead to some fallout between these two. Mick may be super-hot but I wouldn't want to be in the throes of passion and suddenly have my head lopped off.

Richly developed characters got me invested in the story, and even the secondary characters were great. It's Supernatural mixed with a great combination of mystery/suspense plus romance that takes the reader on a fun ride. Add with that the vivid writing style of Allyson will certainly put Firewalker at the top of any reading list. I am kicking myself right now for not getting to this book sooner! *sigh* I can't wait for book three, Shadow Walker, which will be out in June!
